Thijs Kouwenhoven (The Netherlands)

Thijs is a researcher in the field of astronomy and astrophysics at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University in Beijing, China. Thijs did his BSc and MSc in Astronomy at Leiden University (The Netherlands), and his PhD at the University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands), after which he was a researcher at the University of Sheffield (United Kingdom). He has been a secretary of the Coeliac Youth of Europe and the Rotaract Club of Amsterdam. Thijs has also been a World Judge in the Intel Science and Engineering Fair in 2004 and 2005.

Don is a Nippon Foundation Fellow
and a PhD student in Global Health Policy at Cardiff University in Wales, UK. He is a Visiting Scholar of theCatholic University of Santos in Brazil, where he is working on HIV/AIDS research. Don holds a BSc Psychology (cum laude) and Doctor of
Medicine (both from the University of the Philippines), a Master of Public Health in International Health and
Development (Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam) and a Diploma in Social Science Research Methods at
Cardiff University. His major interests are in the field of international health and development. |

Steven Chambers (United Kingdom)

Steve is doing his MSci Mathematics at
Imperial College London. He is the very first recipient
of the prestigious Roy White Scholarship. Steve leads Imperial BlueCube, a major partner of the Balud Project,
and is Imperial's Youth Science Ambassador. He won in the
International Intel Science and Engineering Fair in 2005. He
spent time in the USA, initiating research with the Harvard Management Company, studying Philanthropically Adjusted Invested
Schemes. He has had interest in Social Development issues since his involvement with the United Nations Development Program in 2005.

Jayson Reggie Obos

Reggie is an Electronics Engineering student at De La Salle University-Manila. He has been part of the University
Student Council and belongs to the Star Scholar Group aof the University. He enjoys networking with different
organizations and likes to pursue environmental projects. He is a Grand Award Winner at the International Intel Science and Engineering Fair in Portland, Oregon in 2004, as the representative of the Philippines.

Bryan Asis

Bryan is the Most Outstanding Student of De La Salle University.
He is studying Electronics and Communications Engineering.
He has been a recipient of numerous corporate and academic scholarships. He was a a part of the team which built the first
ever solar car in the Philippines and competed in the World Solar Challenge in Australia. In his spare time he helps out in
teaching children with an NGO. He is an enthusiast of Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art.

Dexie Jean Gacutno

Dexie Jean is an Accountancy student of the University of the Philippines in
Tacloban City. She represents the Philippines in the
Asian Youth Forum and attended
AYF 2006 in Bangkok, Thailand. She was the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairperson in Tacloban City.
She represented the Balud Project in a youth conference in Korea in 2007. She is an elected member of
the University Student Council of the University of the Philippines Tacloban.

Rutchelle Batan Enriquez
Advisor, Education and Youth Leadership
Rutchelle is one of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (2001). She has a Bachelor of Secondary Education in
Physics and Technology (cum laude) from Leyte Normal University and a Master of Arts in Science Teaching
(Physics) from the University of San Carlos. She has been a delegate to the Asia Pacific Leadership Program
of the East West Center of the University of Hawaii where she did field studies in Washington DC and the
Khon Kaen Province in Thailand. Her passion is changing the lives of people through education.

Lisa is a Natural Sciences student at University College London. She spent last year teaching English in Hainan, China, and has attended the Asian Youth Forum in Bangkok, Thailand in 2006. She has been involved in the Balud Project for several years now, and hopes to continue working on similar developments in the future. She has been to Tacloban City and Basey, Samar, thrice during the past years. |

Alexandre Coret

Alex (23) studied social and cultural anthropology at the Université a Aix en Provence and the Université a Aix en Provence in France.
He is currently teaching French at two schools in Liestal and Muttenz (Switzerland).

Ambarish Dash

Ambarish is doing his degree in Mathematics with Finance from Imperial College London. He became part of the Balud
Project through his association with Imperial Bluecube and by winning the Centenary Prize from Imperial College.
His interest in finance resulted in internships with UBS Investment Bank (London), Barclays Capital (London)
and Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors (Mumbai); and he is currently engaged in a project on Venture Philanthropy
on optimizing philanthropic activities. Ambarish spent his pre-university education in Singapore after receiving
the SIA-Youth Scholarship by the Ministry of Education and has plans to pursue a career in finance.

Luca is a scholarship master student of Cooperation &
Development at the Institute for Advanced Study of Pavia, Italy. He
holds a Master in Contemporary Asian Studies (Universiteit van
Amsterdam, Netherlands) and a BSc in International Relations (cum laude) from the University of Pavia, Italy. He is interested in
HIV/AIDS and Trashware. Luca is fascinated by the Chinese
society and spent 6 months in Beijing studying Chinese culture and acting at the Central Academy of Drama.
